MEET THE CEO
As the first generation and youngest of nine, I've always watched my six older sisters take their time doing each other's hair and makeup, while my mom was still perfecting trending styles on me. In 2003, one of my sisters noticed my passion for hair and bought me my first mannequin head (Barbie). She taught me how to do a cornrow, and I got it on the first try.
By 2006, I begged my mom to let me do her hair, and surprisingly, she loved it. She referred me to her local church friends who admired her natural fluffy twists, and I gained my very first client (box braids with extensions). I invested in purchasing more hair to do my own box braid extensions. Going to school (middle school in 2007) in an urban area where box braids were a luxury, perfecting my craft and attending school that year allowed me to build a small clientele based on my school friends.
I did my classmates' hair for free, especially those who couldn't afford to get theirs done. I felt empowered to ensure that my classmates felt as beautiful as I did when I woke up in the morning for school. With the passing of my sister in 2008 (the one who taught me to braid), I felt compelled to leave a legacy.
